Dispatches from the War on Christmas Music

Popular Christmas music is stuck in a time loop, but we shouldn’t discard an entire genre of music built on goodwill and elegant pop structures. With a little digging and a lot of nostalgia, we can all appreciate Christmas music of yesterday and today. These are some dispatches from the front lines of the war on Christmas music.

Scott D. Elingburg is a freelance journalist who writes for several music publications and newspapers, including Stereo Subversion, where he is an editor. He is also a software quality assurance engineer, a job that is not nearly as exciting as it sounds. His favorite Christmas song is “Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella” because it’s in 3/8 time.
